In crafting the vinyl cover for Loyle Carner's album "Not Waving But Drowning," my approach was rooted in the thematic essence of the songs, which explore the expansive imagery of the ocean. I developed an alphabet inspired by the dynamic patterns of sea foam when agitated by the waves. This distinctive typographic treatment, applied as tactile relief, sought to evoke the sensory textures associated with the sea, thereby contributing a tangible and metaphorical layer to the overall cover composition.
The typographic elements, akin to the gentle undulations of the ocean's surface, traverse the cover. This deliberate interplay prompts the viewer to engage with the design on a deeper level. The fusion of typography and texture not only serves to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the album cover but also endeavors to pay homage to the thematic richness inherent in "Not Waving But Drowning."
